Center for Advanced Study is pleased to offer this weeklong institute for early career faculty members and advanced graduate/professional students from around the US and abroad. Morning workshops will be followed by a busy afternoon schedule including plenary presentations by visiting and local scholars that are free and open to the public.

This specific presentation draws from Professor Holland's work in the field of Animal Studies over the last two decades. Much of this work, in the feminist tradition, is about praxis--a living with/being with animal life that situations the doing in the ambiguous place between animal/human, structured by that artful, and awful distinction. This talk will be motivated by a series of perhaps uncomfortable questions that might arise if we take it upon ourselves to think through the human at its most capacious. In this sense, we will explore disciplinary boundaries with a healthy bit of skepticism, and reorient our sense of the animal's history.
