First Mennonite Church will host a lecture by Henry Red Cloud, Chief of the Oglala Lakota Nation, on Monday, October 30th at 7:30 pm. Chief Red Cloud will speak about Pine Ridge and his work to bring solar power and sustainable housing to the reservation.
He is the founder and president of Red Cloud Renewable, a non-profit dedicated to developing renewable energy solutions that create jobs, address social problems, and move Native American communities toward energy sovereignty. The Lakota Thiyuha project will provide low-cost, innovative, energy[1]efficient dome houses for folks who are currently living in uninsulated trailers, old school buses, and other improvised and substandard housing.
Thiyuha: to have a house(hold), to settle down and have a home.
