(UIUC, Economics)"Correcting Market Failures with a 'Durability Gap'"
(Co-authored with Don Fullerton)ABSTRACT: To reduce pollution from exraction, production, and disposal, advocates of Circular Economy recommend durable products with longer lives that also can be recycled and reused. Our economic analysis finds conditions where consumers choose products with livs too short - a "durability gap" - where welfare can be improved by policies targeting durability.
