Title: A New Paradigm in Agricultural Safety
Dr. Salah Issa is an Assistant Professor of Agricultural Safety and Health at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Issa’s research is focused on injury prevention through predictive algorithms, evaluating new technologies and implementing technologies that reduce or remove hazards. Recognizing that agriculture ranks among the deadliest occupations with injury rates remaining fairly stable since 1990’s, he is exploring new strategies in training, and prevention.
One of his areas of focus is developing a proactive approach to agriculture safety that can predict potential injury hot spots allowing for a targeted intervention strategy. In addition, with the digitization of agriculture new and transformative technologies are entering the field. This provides a unique opportunity to both address existing safety risks and design these technologies to take into account future safety and security risks. In this presentation, Issa will provide an overview of agricultural safety and how this new paradigm might impact how we conduct safety.
