Part of the “Think Again...” Event Series.

This event is for graduate students in the humanities and related fields. Registration is required.

From AI-powered writing tools to search interfaces with AI chatbots, artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping the ways that we discover and share humanities scholarship. Join Mary Ton, Digital Humanities Librarian, for dinner and discussion at the Humanities Research Institute about how to engage with AI ethically and effectively in your research and teaching through beginner-friendly tools. Along the way, we’ll consider AI’s limitations as well as its potential to improve accessibility and to promote critical engagement with humanities material. No prior technical experience required, but it may be helpful to watch “A Gentle Introduction to ChatGPT” on the DH@Illinois Media Space Channel prior to the event.

As part of the Provost’s Generative AI Solutions Hub, Mary has been working with stakeholders across campus to develop guidelines for researchers. Thanks to a grant from the NEH, Mary is exploring the use of generative AI to create more accessible digital collections. As a Victorianist, she studies the history of projection as an educational technology in the global south.
