Undergraduate students in the arts and humanities: join HRI at Levis Faculty Center for an hour of coffee, cookies and discussion with HRI Campus Graduate Student Fellow Kadin Henningsen!

Kadin will talk about how he uses his background as an artist and printer to explore topics in his research on the production of nineteenth century books and their participation in the formation of transgender identities, as well as his own work as an artist/activist printing material for the queer and trans community. His mobile printing press, Moveable [Type] Feast,  will be on site for students to print a souvenir bookmark.

About the Speaker
Kadin Henningsen (he/him/his) is a PhD Candidate in the Department of English at UIUC. His research focuses on Nineteenth-Century American Literature, Book History, and Transgender Studies. He holds an MA in Gender and Women's Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Kadin is also a printer and book artist. He uses his research to inform new work while also using his artistic practice as a research method—what he calls "critical fabrication." Kadin is the founder and owner of Meanwhile...Letterpress, a letterpress studio focused on producing work by, for, and about the trans and queer community. You can also find him slinging ink at UIUC's Skeuomorph Press and Book Lab housed in the Champaign-Urbana Community FabLab.
