This year's annual National Eating Disorders Awareness (NEDA) Walk will be held at the University of Illinois Arboretum on April 22 and will begin at 9 a.m.

Dr. Michelle LeMay, co-chair of the Eating Disorders Awareness Outreach Team at the Counseling Center, stated that the NEDA Walk is a main fundraiser for the National Eating Disorder Association (NEDA), a national advocacy and support organization for individuals who struggle with disordered eating. NEDA uses funds raised from events like the NEDA Walk to provide support programs, fund research initiatives, and advocate for support programs locally and nationally. Additionally, events like the NEDA Walk are a prime way to raise awareness and prompt conversations about disordered eating in communities.

The NEDA Walk is a great place to show support to their fellow students. It is estimated that around 10 to 20% of women and 4 to 10% of men on campus report experiencing symptoms of disordered eating. To register for this event, you can visit the NEDA website and select register at the top of the page. Anyone registering for the event can either join an existing team or create a new team. A great incentive to register for this event is that the RSO, fraternity, or sorority that raises the most funds will win a coffee bar party!
