The Champaign Blockchain Meetup is for anyone interested in distributed ledger technology (i.e. blockchains, cryptography, smart contracts, decentralized applications (DApps) cryptocurrency/tokens, and relevant related subjects). Everyone is welcome! Our regular meetings are the third Friday of each month and will have an educational component as well as a discussion component at our meetups. We also have special events and co-sponsor events on campus that relate to the Blockchain industry. Join if you seek to learn about this industry and have a great time.

NOVEMBER PROGRAM:

The cryptocurrency exchange FTX and and partner trading firm Alameda Research are on the brink of collapse as charges of fraud and misconduct have been levied. Revelations came out that accounts were illiquid as FTX has disabled withdrawals. FTT, the native token of FTX, has crashed sending ripple effects across the financial markets as crypto companies and traditional financial management companies face losses.

Aaron Brooks of Brooks Law and Consulting LLC will be joining us to discuss the circumstances behind the FTX crash and the regulatory scrutiny that may be coming as a result. Aaron is a practicing attorney with a degree from the University of Illinois College of Law who also holds an MS in Cybersecurity from the University of Illinois, Springfield. He is host of the DuPage County Bar Association Blockchain Meetings that examine the intersections of Blockchain and the Law.
