The History, Philosophy, and Newspaper Library (HPNL) presents an online author event with Ayana Contreras on Feb. 16 at 7PM CST. This event is free and open to the public. Register for this Zoom happening at https://go.library.illinois.edu/Febevent

Contreras is, among other things, the content director of WBEZ Chicago’s sister station Vocalo; an “occasional podcaster”; the host of the all-vinyl radio show Reclaimed Soul; and a contributor to Downbeat Magazine. Energy Never Dies: Afro-Optimism and Creativity in Chicago, published by University of Illinois Press, is her first book.

Join HPNL for a reading from Energy Never Dies followed by a panel discussion with Dr. Kamau Grantham and Prof. Stacey Robinson. Grantham is a psychotherapist at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; Robinson is an Assistant Professor in the School of Art + Design. Both are DJs and visual artists.

The electronic version of Energy Never Dies is available to anyone with an Urbana-Champaign NetID: https://go.library.illinois.edu/EnergyNeverDies
