The killing of George Floyd and subsequent uprising have drawn attention to the trauma inflicted by structural anti-Black racism in the United States and around the world. With the ongoing demands for justice for Breonna Taylor, activists have also shed light on the underrepresentation of and ongoing impunity in cases of lethal state violence against Black women. As scholars of trauma and memory how can we critically engage with the questions of gender, violence, and other intersecting marginalized identities? How can our research be better attuned to experiences of gendered suffering that are oftentimes excluded from dominant narratives?
To explore some of these questions, this discussion will feature current graduate students who will present a key word pertaining to their research on the topics of gender, violence, collective memory, trauma, and healing.
