When Reviews Mislead: Consumer Interpretation of Incentivized and Fake Content Online
Online reviews increasingly guide consumers’ decisions, but inadequate or absent disclosures about incentivized and fake content pose significant risks for both consumer choice and trust in online marketplaces. Building on deception and persuasion knowledge theories, this research investigates how consumers detect and interpret such reviews across varying disclosure conditions. It also examines why identifying illegitimate content remains difficult and how these detection challenges influence consumer judgments.
Noon-12:45pm: Jacob Covey, CAS Beckman Fellow 2024-25, Physics
Quantum Science with Neutral Atom Arrays in an Optical Cavity
Professor Covey's research group has developed a novel platform for interfacing neutral atom arrays with an optical cavity. This system enables new directions in quantum computing and quantum-enhanced metrology. The platform uses alkaline earth(-like) atoms and is the first such atom array system that has been integrated into an optical cavity.
