Harsh Taneja, Associate Professor
Charles H. Sandage Department of Advertising
In today’s “attention economy,” platforms, creators, and advertisers all compete for our limited time and focus. This lecture will examine how digital platforms capture and monetize attention, and the role of algorithms in determining what content audiences encounter. Students will gain a critical perspective on their own media use and the broader social implications of these dynamics.
Harsh Taneja is an Associate Professor of New and Emerging Media in the Department of Advertising at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. His research examines how audiences engage with media in an increasingly fragmented digital environment, with particular attention to the infrastructures and platforms that shape online attention.
