Paper Airplane Contest Rules

Timeline of Competition:

3:00-3:15 PM — Registration & Check-In

  • Participants must sign in by 3:15 p.m. to be eligible for the contest.
  • Late entries will not be accepted. 


3:15-3:45 PM — Plane Making, Warmups, & Judge Review

  • Participants can design their airplane during this period; REEEC will provide the necessary supplies.
  • Participants may practice throwing their airplane.
  • Judges can review throwing motions.
  • No throws will be counted in the competition during this period. 
  • All airplanes must be reviewed by a judge for rule compliance during this period.
  • Any planes that do not meet the contest rules must be adjusted before 3:45 PM.


 3:45-4:30 PM — Main Competition Rounds

  • Each participant takes one throw and may choose to take a mulligan during this round only.
  • Judges measure and record distances in meters and centimeters.
  • After all throws, judges identify the five airplanes that flew the farthest distances to advance to the Final Round. In case of a tie for the top five airplanes, a tie-breaker throw may be held.


4:30-4:45 PM — Final Round (Top 5)

  • The top five participants compete to determine the overall winner.
  • Participants may make minor adjustments or refold planes during this time, but the same sheet of paper must be used.
  • Each finalist gets one throw
  • The longest single throw determines the overall winner.
  • The remaining finalists are ranked as runner-ups.
  • In case of a tie for the longest throw, a tie-breaker throw may be held.
     

4:45-5:00 PM — Results & Awards

  • The judges will verify all measurements and announce winners.
  • Awards presented for:
    • 🥇 Longest Distance Overall
    • 🥈 Runner-Up Distance
    • 🏆 Most Creative Plane Design
