Over decades, ‘Describe the Night’ reveals how perspective impacts the truth
Energetic, intrigue-filled production opens May 9 to close out The Station Theatre’s 51st season

URBANA, Ill.—Real people and fictional characters hop timelines in Rajiv Joseph’s Describe the Night, an unforgettable tale of humanity.

Illinois Theatre department professor Latrelle Bright is directing the production, which opens May 9 and marks the last of The Station Theatre’s 51st season.

Set in Russia and East Germany over the course of 90 years, this thrilling and epic play traces the stories of seven people connected by history, myth, and conspiracy theories.

In 1920, the Russian writer Isaac Babel is a war correspondent with the Red Cavalry. Seventy years later, a mysterious Stasi agent spies on a woman in Dresden and falls in love. In 2010, an aircraft carrying most of the Polish government crashes in the Russian city of Smolensk.

"Describe the Night" opens May 9 and runs through May 19. Performances take place Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. at The Station Theatre, 223 North Broadway, Urbana. Tickets are $17; $13 for students and seniors (65+), with First Friday tickets only $10. Reserve online at stationtheatre.ludus.com.

The “Describe the Night” cast includes Station newcomers Federico Cutolo, Helvi Witek, Melih Sener, Lauren Ashley Hayes and Reece Griffin, alongside Station veterans Jace Jamison and Cara Maurizi.

Understudy performance will take place May 11, featuring Kyglo Webb, Neil Ryan, June Clark Eubanks, Trent Sherman, Carissa Yau, Owen Skarbalus, and Aneta Lee.
