Ana Gouvea Abras Federal University of ABC (UFABC) Merges and Acquisitions and Gender Inequality in Banking Jobs: Did the Tide Lift all Boats? Presentation of the paper written by Ana Abras (UFABC), Ana C.P. Fava (UFABC), Camila F.S. Campos (University of Milano-Bicocca), and Bruno de Paula Rocha (UFABC). Our article studies labor market discrimination and gender inequality in the financial sector jobs in Brazil. Banking and finance are sectors traditionally associated with male workers, despite the increase in women’s participation in the last two decades. We use a series of events of Mergers and Acquisitions in the largest private banks in Brazil to estimate the impact of changes in sector competition on gender gaps in wages, turnover rates, and management positions.
