On October 27th at noon, join Paul Diehl (Independent Scholar of International Relations, Henning Larsen Professor Emeritus of Political Science, University of Illinois) on Zoom for his lecture, "When Peacekeeping Missions Collide: Balancing Multiple Roles in Peace Operations."

Diehl shines light on the UN's activity in increasing operations by taking on various new missions (e.g., humanitarian assistance, promoting the rule of law, election supervision) in addition to its traditional role of monitoring cease-fires. In his new book, Paul Diehl explores how such multitasking affects the performance of UN peacekeepers and specifically how success or failure in some missions affects the same in other missions.
