Title: Superselection sectors for a poset of von Neumann algebras
Abstract: Techniques from algebraic quantum field theory, specifically DHR superselection theory, can describe anyons emerging from quantum spin systems. This mathematical machinery has been used in other physical contexts. In this talk, we provide a conceptual description of superselection theory that specializes to both quantum spin systems and conformal nets. We provide general assumptions that ensure that the superselection sectors form a braided monoidal category. This is joint work with Anupama Bhardwaj, Tristen Brisky, Chian Yeong Chuah, Kyle Kawagoe, Joseph Keslin, and David Penneys.
