Department of Aerospace Engineering Events

The skills and techniques learned through the AE curriculum are highly portable. Hear from alums who decided to take their career on an alternative path. Learn where their AE education overlapped with their new field, what led them to take the leap out of aerospace engineering, and what challenges they had to overcome to be successful in their new line of work.

Jack Johnson (BS 2020)
Mechanical Design Engineer at Mitsubishi Logisnext Americas Inc.

Jack Johnson is a Mechanical Design Engineer on the Current/Sustaining Products team at Mitsubishi Logisnext Americas Inc. where he works to improve the quality and design of UniCarriers, Caterpillar, Barrett, and Mitsubishi Class I II III IV and V material handling equipment. Prior to this position he was an Engineer at MHI's UniCarriers Americas/Logisnext Americas. Jack received his BS in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Illinois in May 2020.


Anil Mohammed (BS 2012)
Vice President at JPMorgan Chase & Co.

Anil Mohammed is the Vice President at JPMorgan for Zelle, where he oversees and manages the Zelle platform for Treasure Services. Before joining JPMorgan, he spent 8.5 years at Boeing designing new airplanes, 4+ years working on a startup with his brother, and a 7 month internship designing inflatable habitats at NASA. Anil received his BS in Aerospace Engineering in 2012 from UIUC and his MBA from University of Washington in 2018.


Kaitlin (Vahling) Steckler (BS 2014)
Manufacturing Engineer at Kimball Electronics

Kaitlin Steckler is a Manufacturing Engineer for the surface mount technology assembly lines at Kimball Electronics in Jasper, Indiana. Before joining Kimball, she spent 7 years at Cummins, Inc as a Manufacturing Engineer over the 95L and 78L engine assembly lines at the Seymour, Indiana facility. In her spare time, she moonlights as a farm-hand on her in-laws' pasture-based farm in southern Indiana. Kaitlin received her BS in Aerospace Engineering in 2014 from Illinois.
