Abstract:

In the attempt to limit COVID-19 spread on campus, our team utilized monthly survey data and the extensive test results from on campus testing to evaluate several activities for risk: the testing procedure itself, in-person lab/class, and daily activities of the students, staff, and faculty on the UIUC campus. We utilized the “lifeline” python package to build survival models that evaluate risk for the behavior and population groups provided by the monthly survey. Our results found that although testing is frequent on campus, the testing procedure does not increase risk of COVID-19 infection. We also confirmed that the measures to ensure in-person lab/class are efficient. We have evaluated risks of different behaviors and visualized the risks in a chart for people to reference. Finally, we analyzed people’s vaccination intentions and safety measure conformity to provide a basis for mandatory vaccination policy.

Speaker Bio:

Weihao Ge is a research scientist at NCSA in the Industrial Applications Domain.  With a Ph.D. in Biophysics, she has a background working on statistical models on biological systems, from gene ontology enrichment analysis to epidemiology models. The work analyzing surveys and test data on the UIUC campus helped university administration in deciding policies such as safety measures, activity guidelines, and mandatory vaccination.

All presentations will be recorded and will available on the CAII website shortly after the presentation.
