Physics - Careers Seminar

Abstract: The process of finding a job has its own set of challenges, and this has been made even more difficult and stressful in the era of COVID. For many near graduation or the next career step, there is a plethora of questions and uncertainty: how has the job market changed, how can I adapt, and many more. In this talk, I aim to address some of these questions. I will describe trends in the job landscape and highlight resources for going through the job search process with consideration for a variety of career trajectories, such as in academia, industry, national lab, and government/non-profits. Through this seminar, I will endeavor to facilitate a platform for concrete strategies in the job search process.

Bio: Wennie is a computational materials scientist and currently a postdoctoral scholar at the Pritzker School for Molecular Engineering at the University of Chicago. Her research interests include first-principles methods for energy applications and the study of complex oxides for water-splitting applications. In addition to research and her role as APS Career Mentor Fellow, Wennie serves on the executive committee for the APS Forum for Early Career Scientists.
