Physics - Careers Seminar

Abstract: In this talk, I will share and compare my experiences working as a postdoc in a university setting and at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL), one of 17 national laboratories managed by the Department of Energy. I will begin by briefly talking about the career path that has taken me to currently work as a postdoc at ANL. I will then give an overview of the system of national laboratories and in particular talk about the research focus at ANL. Finally, I will discuss the everyday experience at the laboratory and compare the work dynamic with that of a postdoc at a research university.

Bio: I did my undergraduate studies in physics in my home country, Colombia. I came to the US to pursue a Ph.D. at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in condensed matter theory with Taylor L Hughes. I then went on to work as a postdoc at Yale University and at Argonne National Laboratory, where I am currently employed.
