Cloud Electrification and Aviation Applications
Previous studies have shown that microphysical and dynamical processes are tied to the development of charge regions inside deep convective storms and resultant lightning. However, not all aspects of these relationships are completely understood. Studying these not only helps our basic understanding of electrification of clouds and their role in a global electric circuit but also has other applications such as for aviation. This talk will focus on cloud electrification in different electrified clouds and potential applications of improved understanding of these as well as the utility of lightning measurements to estimate storm dynamical properties.
