Geothermal Energy Harvesting

Dr. Viktoria Gisladottir
Energy Resilience Researcher
Cold Regions Research & Engineering Laboratory (CRREL), U.S. Army Engineer R&D Center (ERDC)

Viktoria Gisladottir will discuss extraction and injection of geothermal fluid in geothermal energy harvesting and the feasibility of using geothermal energy at Fort Greely Army Base to increase energy resilience. While there are no surface manifestations of a geothermal resource near Ft. Greely, anomalous regional heat flow could be evidence of “blind” or concealed deep geothermal resources in the area. If such a resource is present, it could increase the installation’s resiliency in the form of power and/or thermal load that would not require importing fuel.

Refreshments will be available 15 minutes before the seminar begins.
