Book Marketing in a Virtual World
The pandemic has changed the book marketing landscape drastically, as book events and conferences have all gone virtual. Amidst all the noise, how can you make your book stand out of from the crowd? This panel will feature practical tips on virtual events, and address how to partner with your press to raise your book's profile, how to plan out your publicity campaign if you have a forthcoming book, and strategies for pitching op-eds.

Karen Flynn is an Associate Professor in the Department of Gender and Women’s Studies and the Department of African American Studies, UIUC, and author of Moving Beyond Borders: A History of Black Canadian and Caribbean Women in the Diaspora (University of Toronto Press, 2011).
Tyrone McKinley Freeman is Assistant Professor of Philanthropic Studies at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy and author of Madam C. J. Walker’s Gospel of Giving: Black Women’s Philanthropy during Jim Crow (University of Illinois Press, 2020).
Cara A. Finnegan is a Professor in the Department of Communication, UIUC, and sole author of three books, two of them published by the University of Illinois Press: Making Photography Matter: A Viewer’s History from the Civil War to the Great Depression (2015) and Photographic Presidents: Making History from Daguerreotype to Digital (2021).
Adrian Burgos, Jr., is Professor of History, UIUC, and author of three books in U.S. Latino and Sports History, the most recent being ¡Pleibol! In the Barrios and the Big Leagues (Smithsonian Scholarly Press, 2020), which he co-authored with Margaret Salazar-Porziothe.
