Visitors are invited to engage anew with European and American art in this special exhibition on view in the Rosann Gelvin Noel Gallery.

If you have visited Krannert Art Museum before, you might already be acquainted with some of these masterworks of European and American art, which span six centuries: from about 1320 to 1920. They are normally found in the Bow and Trees galleries on the main level of the Kinkead Pavilion, but have been temporarily relocated due to construction.

In order to give students, faculty, and visitors an opportunity to engage with these familiar works and also see the collection in new ways, this selection was made with the aim of providing unfamiliar juxtapositions and provoking new dialogues.

In addition, visitors will have the opportunity to view one of KAM’s great treasures, The Portrait of Diane of France, Daughter of King Henri II, by François Clouet. The painting, away from view for some time, has undergone a major conservation treatment, and is now ready to be featured in this new installation, alongside well-known portraits by John Singleton Copley, Moretto da Brescia, and Thomas Gainsborough. The exhibition also includes paintings by Frans Hals, David Teniers II, Pieter de Hooch, François Boucher, Winslow Homer, Gabriele Münter, Camille Pissarro, and Anna Ruysch.

Curated by Maureen Warren, Curator of European and American Art
