1.0 CEs for LCSW/LSW and LCPC/LPCThe Potawatomi Trail of Death offers a powerful lens for understanding the intertwined histories of Indigenous displacement, settler expansion, and the development of communities in east-central Illinois. Drawing on local history, her own family’s settler ancestry, and her involvement with the Potawatomi Untold Story project, Janet Elaine Guthrie examines how personal and family histories connect to broader experiences of forced removal, dispossession, and the lasting impact of these events on Indigenous peoples and local communities. By bringing together historical accounts, personal reflection, and community engagement, this session invites participants to consider how these histories are remembered, whose stories have been overlooked, and what it means to acknowledge and take responsibility for the past. The session also encourages reflection on reconciliation, repair, and how a deeper understanding of local history can inform more respectful and meaningful relationships with Indigenous peoples today. .
