The Evolving Modeling Landscape: History, Changes and Applications
The availability of powerful, mature open-source meteorological modeling systems is a boon to research and forecasting in the U.S. and around the world (and the result of decades of effort). The choices available to would-be weather / climate modelers are greater than ever. At the same time, changes are occurring as the Weather Research and Forecasting Model (WRF) approaches a plateau and NCAR's Model for Prediction Across Scales (MPAS) takes leaps forward in capability and adoption. This talk will address the evolving world of modeling, how we got here, what changes are underway, and how such models are being used today.
