Nicholas Crayton
Program Officer, Community Safety & Well-Being – North Lawndale

In his role as Program Officer on the North Lawndale Team, Nicholas is responsible for the development and implementation of violence prevention, community safety, and mental well-being efforts through community engagement and relationship-building to help guide productive outcomes for the safety and health of North Lawndale. Nicholas manages a portfolio of violence prevention, community violence intervention, community policing, and re-entry initiatives. Prior to joining the Steans Family Foundation, Nicholas served as Career and Reentry Manager at Defy Ventures, working with formerly incarcerated individuals to equip them with new skills, new connections, and a new belief to match their new purpose, and succeed in their new life of economic independence. Previous experience includes serving as Production Manager at ICI Bakery. Nicholas is also an author, artist, speaker, social entrepreneur, justice advocate, and mentor. Nicholas holds an associate’s degree in liberal studies and a master’s degree in theology from Midwest Seminary. He also is an avid gardener, 3D animator, and stock market enthusiast.
