About the candidate:
Hillary Glandon is an assistant research scientist at the Lake Michigan Biological Station, one of seven field stations within PRI’s Illinois Natural History Survey. She focuses on developing interdisciplinary research to quantify the impact of shoreline protection structures on the ecology and geology of nearshore ecosystems in the Great Lakes. Before joining LMBS, she worked on projects ranging from describing the ecophysiology of marine fish and mammals to oyster restoration strategies in Chesapeake Bay.
Seminar statement:
My seminar will describe how my experiences have prepared me to help shape the future of coastal resilience science at the University of Illinois. Coastal resilience is often ill-defined, which complicates efforts to inform scientists, policymakers, and the public about its impact. I define coastal resilience as the ability of ecosystems, communities, or landscapes to maintain critical processes despite external pressures. I’ll explore how PRI’s expertise can position us as leaders in this field through collaborative research, outreach, and policy efforts.
