About the candidate:
David Trossman is a physical oceanographer with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary work. He has held positions at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Louisiana State University, and the University of Maryland, among others. His research uses numerical and statistical models to monitor ocean state variables, understand ocean physics, and enhance forecasting systems.

Seminar statement:
My presentation will cover issues impacting coastal resilience, such as ocean warming, hurricane forecasting, and ocean oxygen loss, drawing parallels between the ocean and Great Lakes. I will also discuss recent advancements in monitoring techniques, challenges in forecasting hurricane intensity, and methods for improving Great Lakes forecasts. The second part of the seminar will explore shortcomings in coastal resilience definitions, focusing on how inequities in impacts and interventions are often overlooked in cost-benefit analyses.
