Strong Towns: Principles and Best Practices for Building Robust, Resilient Communities

In this presentation, Charles Marohn will draw upon his two books—Strong Towns: A Bottom-Up Revolution to Rebuild American Prosperity and Confessions of a Recovering Engineer—to illustrate the Strong Towns approach to community (re)development. Marohn will challenge the prevailing American approach to development, highlighting how diverse subfields of planning and engineering—from transportation and infrastructure, to housing, zoning, and urban design—have contributed to unsustainable growth patterns and how they can do better. From these foundations, Marohn will outline a set of principles and best practices that can put communities on the path toward greater prosperity, resilience, sustainability, and quality of life.

This Wetmore Lecture event is hosted by the Department of Urban and Regional Planning. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign THB / Room 227. 2:00-3:15 pm Reception to follow presentation.
