The Illinois State Water Survey began in 1895 when the Illinois legislature earmarked $4,000 for scientists at the University of Illinois to study the state's water supply. Since then, the Illinois State Water Survey has been a leader in the study of water resources, weather, and climate.
Commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Illinois State Water Survey on Feb. 4 as our expert scientists give a snapshot of critical water and weather issues in Illinois, including:
- How climate change will affect Illinois communities, and what we can do
- Understanding flood risk
- Long-term sediment trends in Illinois streams
- The Mahomet Aquifer–Past, Present, and Future
