What is MSPE?
The Master of Science in Policy Economics is a STEM designated graduate program offered by the Department of Economics at UIUC. The program consists of 10, four-credit courses. Four required courses cover the basic preparation in the three core fields of Microeconomics and Econometrics. Six elective courses chosen from various fields of economics, two of which are from the student's chosen field of specialization.

MSPE 4+1
The MSPE 4+1 Track allows UIUC majors from economics and other disciplines to begin the coursework for the MSPE Program in their senior year and then complete the MPSE degree requirements within one additional year on campus. The MSPE 4+1 Track allows you to begin the coursework for the MSPE degree by taking three of the core courses during your senior year. You would complete the remaining seven courses during the following year and graduate with the MSPE degree in that year.
