Crayfish are one of the most threatened group of aquatic organisms in North America and one of the least understood in terms of distribution, life history, etc. I will focus on some case studies that we have conducted on crayfish in Texas and Louisiana. The crayfish in the picture is the Kisatchie Painted Crayfish, a species of conservation concern and a potential candidate for federal protection.
