Parkland College students have participated in the Undergraduate Research Symposium at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) since 2013 under the Ethnography of the University Initiative (EUI). This initiative, supported by the Office of Undergraduate Research at UIUC, has students use a variety of ethnographic, archival, and related methods to examine their home institutions in its broader social, political, and historical contexts within EUI affiliated courses. Starting in 2022, Parkland students doing course-embedded research will continue to benefit from this collaboration and participate in the symposium at their home institution, hosted by Parkland’s Honors Program. The following student presentations from Parkland’s Introduction to Cultural Anthropology course, presented at Parkland’s Honors Symposium, are part of the Illinois 2022 Undergraduate Research Week.
