The Grammy Award-winning St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, led by Music Director Stéphane Denève, is one of the world’s preeminent orchestras, celebrated for its warm and engaging sound, prolific and acclaimed recording history, national and international touring activities, and distinctive commitment to educational and community outreach efforts. They partner with one of today’s finest pianists, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, in this dynamic program. Chuphshah! Harriet’s Drive to Canaan by composer James Lee III opens the evening; the work explores aspects of the life of American freedom activist Harriet Tubman. Next, Gershwin’s jazz-influenced, rhythmic concerto features Thibaudet, and the program closes with Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 3, music written in exile from Russia that balances melancholy with exuberance, prayer with triumph.

James Lee III: Chuphshah! Harriet’s Drive to Canaan
Gershwin: Piano Concerto in F Major
Rachmaninoff: Symphony No. 3 in A Minor, Op. 44
