Screening & Discussion with filmmaker Bora Kim and film critic Darcy Paquet

Set against the backdrop of a rapidly expanding Seoul in 1994, a lonely 14-year-old Eun-hee moves through life like a hummingbird searching for a taste of sweetness wherever she may find it. Deprived of attention from her family, she roams the neighborhood with her best friend, attempts romantic relationships with both girls and boys alike and is sent to the hospital with an unclear diagnosis. When Young-ji, a new teacher, arrives, she becomes the first adult Eun-hee feels really understands her. (Written and directed by Bora Kim | South Korea, USA | 2018 | 138 minutes | Korean w/ English subtitles)

House of Hummingbird won the Grand Prix for Best Feature Film at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival Generation 14plus and won NETPAC and Audience awards at the 23rd Busan International Film Festival.

Presented in partnership with the Institute for Korean Studies at Indiana University and made possible by the Core University Program Grant from the Academy of Korean Studies.
