As the core components of the “Chinese excellent traditional culture,” which contains rich ideological concepts, traditional values, and humanistic spirits, it is not only the historical culture created by Chinese ethnic groups but also the valuable tradition shared by Chinese people. While annotating the characteristics of modern society, such as modernization, globalization, and informatization, it causes unprecedented retrospection on culture and value and also questioning the process of social transformation among the community members. At the same time, the structural imbalance caused by social transformation constantly challenges the traditional foundation and cultural identity within the national community.

Dr. Yang suggests that it is very crucial to strengthen the transmission of traditional values, and put the value into practice in people’s daily life, and enhance the educational function. They are the precondition, the basic way, and the critical methods to realize the inheritance and development of the “Chinese excellent traditional culture” in such a complicated current situation.

Bin Yang is a Professor at the School of Marxism, Qinghai University, China. Her current research focuses on national relations and cultural identity in contemporary China.
