Film Synopsis
A group of friends from Tehran takes their children on a weekend trip to the Caspian Sea. Sepideh (Golshifteh Farahani) invites Elly (Taraneh Alidoosti), her daughter’s teacher, hoping to introduce her to Ahmad (Shahab Hosseini), a recently divorced friend visiting from Germany. The holiday takes a troubling turn when Elly suddenly disappears. As the friends search for her, conflicting stories and hidden truths put their relationships under strain.
Written and directed by Asghar Farhadi, About Elly explores friendship, honesty, social expectations, and responsibility. Farhadi won the Silver Bear for Best Director at the 2009 Berlin International Film Festival, and the film won the Founders Award for Best Narrative Feature at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival.
