The Carnegie Museum of Natural History is home to America’s largest flea collection, a vast assortment of Siphonaptera specimens gleaned from bats, birds, bears, and more. Over the past two years we have been working to capture the data associated with this extraordinary collection, using a three-part approach to connect specimens, label data, field notes, and hosts. Discover the ups, downs, ins, and outs of automated slide imaging and the terrifying world of flea biology. (photo: Ainsley with horrifyingly large flea)
