Traditionally, p-values have a central role in the application of statistical inference to quantitative research designs. While the problem with the misuse and misinterpretation of p-values has long been generally acknowledged, the high prevalence of this problem persists in research studies today. The recent heightened discussion in the scientific community on p-value misuse, in particular its contribution to non-replicability of studies, is most likely to induce palpable changes in conducting statistical analysis, interpreting results and publication guidelines.

In this webinar, Jesus Sarol, PhD, Senior Research Biostatistician in IHSI's Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design (BERD) Core, will talk about the common ways that researchers misuse p-values and past and recent recommendations on alternatives to the reporting of study results in relation to the role of p-values. This webinar is intended for early career researchers who are not yet familiar with the p-value controversy and recent discussions around it. They might benefit from avoiding the common mistakes regarding reporting p-values that may result in non-acceptance of articles for publication.
