One of the gems of the Rare Book and Manuscript Library is the Ordo ad consecrandum et coronandum regem et reginam Franciae or the Coronation Book of Queen Jeanne d’Evreux, a resplendently illuminated 14th century French manuscript chronicling the coronation of the last Capetian queen in word and image. This talk by Paula Carns, Head of the Literatures and Languages Library, will focus on the woman figured in the manuscript, her relationship to the book, and her and her royal relatives’ book collecting habits. Participants will be treated to a virtual showing of the Ordo and the famous Hours of Jeanne d’Evreux (New York, The Cloisters Collection, 1954, 54.1.2).
