Asian American Cultural Center Events

Food for Thought, part of the Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Relation's Lunch on Us series, is a weekly noontime discussion focused on topics relevant to the Asian American community. Past discussions include topics such as nutrition, mental health, sexual health, and media representation of Asian Americans.

This week's presenter is Gloria Yen , Director of the New American Welcome Center.

Gloria received her undergraduate degree in Music History from the University of Illinois before earning a Masters of Social Sciences at the University of Chicago. Prior to moving back to Champaign in 2016, Gloria served as a Team Leader for The HistoryMakers, a non-profit “committed to preserving and making widely accessible the untold personal stories of both well-known and unsung African Americans.” Gloria’s commitment to social justice and immigrant services is largely influenced by her experiences as a second generation Taiwanese American.

The New American Welcome Center at the University Y helps immigrants fully integrate into American society and prepares receiving communities around Champaign County to be welcoming and inclusive. By engaging local institutions and mobilizing community resources, we help make our community a place where newcomers and immigrants can thrive and flourish.
