Biography: Angela Foster-Rice is an environmental attorney and sustainability leader with 20+ years of experience developing global corporate strategies to reduce environmental risks. In 2018 she founded Aerial Consulting which provides support for companies and organizations on sustainability, climate policy, and strategies for mitigation and resiliency, including work in carbon markets.
Prior to Aerial Consulting, Foster-Rice was with United Airlines for 15 years, first as Environmental Health & Safety Counsel and then leading Environmental Affairs & Sustainability. She led a team that was responsible for United's environmental regulatory compliance, environmental policy, sustainability measures, and alternative fuels strategy. Under Foster-Rice’s leadership, United became the first U.S. airline to integrate low-carbon biofuels into every day operations and made the largest airline investment in a biofuels company - investing in Fulcrum BioEnergy that uses household waste as its feedstock.
Foster-Rice played a key role in the airline delegation to the United Nations that helped create the first global carbon emission regulation for any industry – which was the Carbon Off-setting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA). During Foster-Rice’s leadership, United was recognized as a global environmental leader in a number of rankings including Newsweek’s #1 Green Airline (2018), Air Transport World’s Eco-Airline (2017), ACI Airports Going Green #1 Airline for Sustainability (2016), and the highest score for a U.S. airline in the Carbon Disclosure Project (2016). Foster-Rice was also recognized with a Women in Sustainability Leadership Award by Green Building & Design (2015).
Foster-Rice is an advisory board member for the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center and also for Climate Futures (crypto-currency platform to support carbon mitigation projects). She received a degree in Environmental Studies from Rice University and a law degree from Northwestern University. She lives in Chicago with her husband and two daughters.
