"Ethics and the responsible conduct of research"
As stated in the recently released University of Illinois System Guiding Principles, “we view integrity as intrinsic to excellence.” The University of Illinois is committed to serving society through its world-class research and the creation of knowledge and understanding. Our commitment to innovative research requires an obligation to maintain the highest standards of research integrity, and we acknowledge the mutual trust among researchers and the trust invested in us by the public. Responsible research requires implementing appropriate research methods, acknowledging conflicts of interest, protecting human and animal subjects, supporting laboratory safety, following best practices in research publication, and effectively addressing violations of research standards. We will discuss several case studies to emphasize the importance of the responsible conduct of research on our campus.
