"Urban Dialogues Across Borders: Transnational Solidarities and Pedagogies in the Global South" will take place on Tuesday, May 5th in Coble Hall 306, starting at 5:30 pm. See the following from the LAC Cities Collective:

"This panel brings together Ken Salo (UIUC), Clarissa Freitas (Federal University of Ceará) Faranak Miraftab (UIUC) and José Ricardo Faria (Universidade Federal do Parana) to explore how urban research, activism, and pedagogy intersect across the Global South. Drawing on experiences from Latin America and beyond, the conversation examines how transnational solidarities are built through engaged scholarship, community-based practices, and critical teaching.

The panel also reflects on the crucial role of scholars from the Global South working within institutions of the Global North in unsettling dominant planning paradigms. By bringing collaborations with scholars outside the center, situated knowledges, relational practices, and grounded pedagogies into these spaces, they challenge hegemonic frameworks and open pathways for more plural, just, and context-responsive urban futures.  Thinking cities as sites if struggles snd collaboration, teaching and research become tools for rethinking power, knowledge production, and solidarity across borders."

When: Tuesday May 5

Where: Coble Hall, room 306.

Organized by the Latin American and the Caribbean Cities collective and sponsored by the Illinois Global Institute, CLACS, and the College of Fine & Applied Arts.
