DESCRIPTION: Whether you are tasked with writing grants for your organization or just want to develop a new skill set, this full-day workshop will cover the basics you need to get started. Key concepts will include: the current grantmaking landscape; the differences between public- and private-sector funding; grant proposal components; comparative data; SMART objectives; logic models; and project budgets. Participants also will receive tips on how to secure their first grant award.
PRESENTER: Kristin Olson, Grant Writing Specialist, began writing grants when she was a graduate student at the University of Illinois at Springfield. After earning her Master’s degree in non-profit organization management, she worked in the non-profit sector for seven years. In 2006, she launched her consulting business, Grants Galore, and has submitted 640 grant proposals to date. With a success rate of 55%, she has secured more than $210 million in grant funding and government contracts for nonprofit organizations and units of local government throughout the U.S. Kristin enjoys singing, playing piano, gardening, and other activities that don’t involve looking at a computer screen!
