The expectation that organizations and institutions demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) has been increasing over the last decade. In this introductory workshop we’ll explore key terms and concepts related to EDI. Participants will leave with a foundational understanding and practical tools for embedding equity in their personal and professional lives.

Group discussions and activities allow participants to apply the material to their lives and work contexts. Participants will leave with a foundational understanding and practical tools for embedding equity in their personal and professional lives.

Because this event is over 3 hours long we will be providing refreshments (water, coffee, tea & fruit).  There will be also be a break at about the half way point.

SPEAKERS:

Lingling Liu is currently the Community Health & Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Program Coordinator at Memorial Health. She is involved in equity-related initiatives within Memorial as well as community health programs in the communities that Memorial’s affiliates serve. Her education background is in Communication and English-Chinese translation and interpretation studies, as well as a graduate certificate in Entrepreneurship. She has experience in survey research while being a graduate student at the University of Illinois at Springfield, and also in healthcare education event planning at Memorial, prior to transitioning into her current role.

Tim McGee is an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Consultant at Memorial Health with experience working on inclusion and belonging in higher education, nonprofits, and religious organizations. He has a PhD in religious studies, focusing on antiracism and solidarity in the Christian tradition.
