University of Illinois College of Law (VIRTUAL) CLE:
"The U.S. Supreme Court’s 2019 Term"
Friday, May 1, 2020
12-1 p.m. (CST)
During its current (2019) term, the U.S. Supreme Court has a series of high-profile cases on its docket. Among the questions these cases present are the following: Must state criminal jury verdicts be unanimous? Does existing federal law prohibit sexual orientation discrimination in the workplace? May states be held liable for copyright infringement? Was the Trump administration’s decision to end DACA lawful? Does the First Amendment bar Catholic school teachers from bringing employment discrimination claims against their religious employers? May states punish faithless electors? Is a subpoena of the President’s tax returns unconstitutional? A panel of faculty experts from the University of Illinois College of Law will discuss some of the cases the Court has decided or will decide this term and preview other issues that might soon reach the Court arising from governmental responses to the coronavirus pandemic.
