As high-tech deals continue to fire on all cylinders, conglomerate mergers are drawing increased scrutiny from global regulatory enforcers. The types of economic tools used in conglomerate mergers differ from those used in horizontal mergers, and often require a range of remedies. The speakers will discuss some of the recent high stakes deals to explore these issues from a global perspective, especially China.

Sophie Yang is a Senior Vice President at Compass Lexecon. She has over 10 years of experience applying microeconomic theory and econometric methods to complex litigation and merger review settings. Over the course of numerous matters, Dr. Yang has supported testifying experts on alleged monopolization and exclusionary conduct, price fixing, and intellectual property issues. She has performed economic analyses for multiple high-profile mergers. She has given seminars related to intellectual property damages and FRAND licensing issues to judges, government agencies, and IP attorneys at conferences and law firms. Dr. Yang served as a consulting expert for a consortium of investors on economic forecasting and is an adjunct faculty member at Harvard University.

Daisy Sun is a Senior Economist with Compass Lexecon. She has experience consulting on FRAND-related cases with the China Competition Group. Prior to joining Compass Lexecon, Daisy obtained her PhD in Economics from Yale University focusing on firms’ technological innovation and trade activities.
